YOUR LIGHT SWITCH IS YOUR VOTE

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.

VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

Launched in Australia on the 31st of March 2007, Earth Hour moved 2.2 million people and 2100 businesses in Sydney to turn off their lights for one hour. This massive collective effort reduced the city's energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour. With Sydney icons like the Harbour Bridge and Opera House turning their lights off and unique events such as weddings by candlelight, the world took notice. Inspired by the collective effort of millions of Sydneysiders, many major global cities are joining Earth Hour in 2008, turning a symbolic event into a global movement.

The Zamboanga Earth Concern Outdoors (ZECO) Inc., in cooperation with La Roca, Golden Boys Sports Grille, will be hosting the 1^st Sports Climbing Clinic and Competition on March 15 – 16, 2008. The clinic shall be opened to all interested  sports enthusist.

Registration forms are available at Xtreme Outdoors Outfitter located at San Jose Rd. Z.C., fronting San Luis Bldg. Forms must be submitted on or before March 15, 2008, at the La Roca, Golden Boys Sports Grill, Nuñez Extension, Zamboanga City, together with the registration fee. A complete information must be included in the registration form to include a waiver claim to be signed in full by all participants.

The registration fee is P100.00 per participants, inclusive of ID's and certificate of participation. Limited slots are available.

We shall be looking forward to your enthusiastic participation in this 1^st Sports Climbing Clinic and Competition here in Zamboanga City. Come one and all!

 The 1st Zamboanga Friendship Climb 2007, dubbed as "Subi Kita Compañeros" was to highlight our very own Hermosal Festival hosted by the Zamboanga Earth Concern Outdoors, Inc. in cooperation with the office of the City Mayor and City Tourism to promote ECO-tourism and Environmental Awareness. 

They were all adventurous people and nature lovers coming from different places nationwide. Participants were from Pagadian, Negros Occidental, Dipolog, Cebu, Davao, Digos, General Santos City, Kidapawan City and even locals from Ateneo, government agencies like Bureau of Fire Protection and Coca Cola group of adventurists with their distict group names like X-TREME ADVENTURE CLUB, MULATTO, CATBA, KABAKA, PAPA, WORM, SAKATA, PAGADIAN SAVER, EARTHFIRST MOUNTAINEERING SOCIETY, MARIMAX OUTDOOR ADVENTURE &  ECO WATCH.

This event was derive from the idea of the Club's project manager, Roger C. Vallejos and technically assisted by his mentor, a veteran Mountaineer, Raul Bendanillo who is now their club adviser.

     We shall be looking forward to your enthusiastic participation in this 1^st Zamboanga Friendship Climb 2007 here in Zamboanga City. Come one and all!
